Dr. Andrew C. Uzoigwe PhD


Dr. Andrew C Uzoigwe holds a BSc(Mechanical Engineering) and an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds the MSc and PhD degrees in Petroleum/Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, California.


Upon completion of his formal education in the United States of America, Dr. Uzoigwe worked for Dow Chemical Company in its Walnut Creek Research Center, and in its Specialty Chemicals Production Facilities in Pittsburg, California for about 9 years. At Dow, he held varied Senior Technical and Supervisory positions before returning back to Nigeria in 1981 to join the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).


During his tenure at NNPC, Dr. Uzoigwe held several senior technical and management positions which included:


–Chief Engineer and Project Coordinator, Petrochemicals Phase 2 project.


–Manager, General Manager and Group General Manager NNPC R&D Division)

    

–Managing Director, Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company Ltd –( A subsidiary of NNPC)

    

–Managing Director, Eleme Petro-chemicals Company Ltd  ( A subsidiary of NNPC)


In 1999, he was appointed the NNPC Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production) in charge of Upstream activities in the Oil and Gas sector of the national economy. In this capacity, he thus became a member of the NNPC Top Management Committee (TMC) and a member of the NNPC Group Board of Directors. As GED (E & P), he looked after five (5) Subsidiary Companies / Corporate Divisions of the NNPC including Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Ltd (NPDC), Integrated Data Services Ltd (IDSL), Crude Oil Marketing Division (COMD), the Nigerian Gas Company Ltd. (NGC), and the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS).


While in Public Service, Dr. Uzoigwe, at different times, also served in the Governing Boards of Raw Materials Research and Development Council. RMRDC, for which he received merit recognition; National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA; and often represented NNPC in the NEPA Technical Board.


Dr. Uzoigwe is a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer and a Registered Professional Chemical Engineer in the State of California, U.S.A. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, a Fellow of the Polymer institute of Nigeria, and a member of a number of National and International Professional Societies and Organizations.


Dr. Uzoigwe has traveled extensively all over the world on numerous professional assignments on behalf of NNPC and /or the Nigerian Government. Examples include:


–As Chairman of the National Technical Advisory Committee on the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) for six (6) consecutive years, participated actively in all 16 different United Nations Preparatory Commissions on the CWC in The Hague, the Netherlands.


–Member of the Nigerian Delegation to the 4th PREPCOM on Environment and Sustainable Development at the United Nations in New York, in 1992. His primary assignment focused on negotiations on ”Transfer of Technology“ and the ”Atmosphere“ chapters of AGENDA 21.This was a three months assignment.


–Led the Nigerian Delegation to the second UNIDO consultations on licensing Petrochemical Technologies in

Istanbul , Turkey in 1982.


–Participated and/or made technical presentations in over 50 international professional and technical meetings, seminars and or Delegation leader and/or active participation in many bi-lateral and/or multi-lateral technical and/or commercial negotiations with different third parties on a number of NNPC projects and various other matters.


–Dr. Uzoigwe formally retired from NNPC in June 2002 as GED (E&P), and is married with 4 children.


–In addition, since his formal retirement, Dr. Uzoigwe was appointed into, and served as a member of the NNPC Group Board of Directors from August 2005 to April 2007. In addition, he has served or is currently serving on the Boards of a number of private companies, both locally and Overseas.

       

He is presently on the Board of Emerald Energy Resources and is the Chairman of Millennium Oil and Gas Co. Ltd.


–Further, Dr. Uzoigwe is also currently serving as a member of both the OGIC Implementation Committee and the Power Sector Reform Implementation Committee, both of which are national assignments.
